The captain pick on a franchise-specific match should be the franchise’s highest-form player who is playing in a venue that suits their role. A top-order batsman on a flat pitch at Wankhede is a high-confidence captain pick.
The vice-captain pick should be a different role or a different franchise, to diversify the captain pick risk.
The impact player rule allows each franchise to substitute one player from a 4-player list of impact players at any point during the match, usually at the end of the 14th over. The rule was introduced in IPL 2022 to add tactical depth.
The impact player announcement is the most important pre-match input that affects team selection. A team that names a bowling all-rounder as the impact player is signalling that the pitch favours bowling.
The impact player rule also affects the in-match scoring. An impact player who comes in at the 14th over and scores 50 runs off 20 balls is a higher fantasy output than a player who plays the full match for 30 runs off 25 balls.

The momentum factor is the underrated element of the form trend. A team that has won 3 in a row is in better momentum than a team that has won 3 of 5, and the momentum is the input that drives the in-match tactical decisions.
For MI matches on flat pitches, the recommended captain pick is the top-order Indian batsman. For MI matches on turning pitches, the recommended captain pick is the wrist-spinner.
For CSK matches at Chepauk, the recommended captain pick is the spinner. For CSK matches away, the recommended captain pick is the experienced all-rounder.
For RCB, KKR, and SRH matches, the recommended captain pick is the explosive middle-order batsman. The recommendations are based on the Come Sports AI suggestion engine.
